This school year, St. Vincent's made a big change by banning mobile phones during school hours. The goal? To help everyone focus better and cut down on distractions in class. To find out what students really think about this new rule, Newsroom put together a video report on what students think about the mobile phone ban.
In the video, you'll hear students sharing their thoughts on the mobile phone ban. Some students are adjusting well, while others are still figuring it out. Our Principal, Ms. Quinn, also chimes in to explain why we have this ban. She believes that when phones are put away, we can pay more attention to our teachers and connect better with each other.
What The Research Says
Did you know that research shows phones can actually hurt our learning? Studies say that when students use their phones in class, they can get easily distracted and have a tougher time remembering what they learned. Plus, being on our phones can keep us from chatting and learning from each other.
The Dopamine Effect
Another important factor to consider is the dopamine effect of phones. Every time we check our phones or get a notification, our brains release a chemical called dopamine, which makes us feel good. This can create a cycle where we constantly seek out that quick feeling of happiness instead of focusing on our schoolwork. It can make it hard to concentrate and enjoy learning!
