ST VINCENT’S SAY GOODBYE TO BELOVED TEACHERS MS BROWN AND MS KENNEDY AFTER 32 YEARS

St Vincent’s School hosted an emotional and surprise farewell for two of its most cherished educators, Ms Brown and Ms Kennedy, as they retired after 32 years of teaching together at the school.

Staff and students lined the corridors for a heartfelt guard of honour, clapping and cheering as the pair walked through one last time. There was no advance warning — the tribute was a complete surprise, reflecting the genuine affection in which they are held by the entire school community.

Both teachers have 35 years of teaching experience in total, with the last 32 spent side by side at St Vincent’s. Ms Brown, the school’s French teacher and year head, and Ms Kennedy, the Irish teacher and coordinator of Transition Year (TY) and Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA), have been described by colleagues and students alike as “the heart of the school.”

They were known for their warm, friendly welcome to everyone — especially new staff — and for being the type of people who “light up a room.” Their presence brought energy, kindness, and consistency to daily life at the school.

Beyond the classroom, Ms Brown and Ms Kennedy played a key role in organising highly successful senior school trips to the USA and Europe, giving generations of students the chance to experience new cultures and create lasting memories.

Their departure marks the end of an era for St Vincent’s. While they will be sadly missed, their impact on students, staff, and the school’s culture will endure for years to come.

As the old Irish saying goes: “Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann” — “There will never be the likes again.”
