By Tynan Lawson, TY

Vincent’s U19 basketball team is into the All-Ireland after a dominant 20-point win over Beneavin in today’s East Dublin Regional Final. The game was played in Oblate Inchicore and finished 58–38, with 50 St Vincent’s students in the stands backing the boys in blue and yellow.

Tip-off was at 11:30, and Vincent’s started quickly with a neat 2‑pointer from Oscar Sowa. Soon after, Josh Mondejar stole the show in the first quarter, scoring 13 of Vincent’s 17 points and giving his team a strong early lead.

By the middle of the second quarter, Beneavin had put together a brief comeback, but Vincent’s held firm. By the end of the third quarter they were 12 points ahead, helped by important contributions from Karl San Diego and Munasar Omar at both ends of the court.

Vincent’s control continued into the fourth quarter, when Zeke Gramonte, Mark Lunar and Abraham Marzan came on and all added their names to the scoresheet, pushing the final score out to 58–38. The result capped an impressive season of 6 wins and just 1 loss for Vincent’s and secured their place in the next All-Ireland Basketball League.

The winning team was made up of Padraig Ross, Munasar Omar, Dean Ball, Karl San Diego, Charlie Abragan, Josh Mondejar, Abraham Marzan, Zeke Gramonte, Oscar Sowa, Gary Tspon, Mark Lunar, Rhys O’Brien, Jonathan Donnolly, Mohammad Saeed and Einoras Kincinas. After the match, the players received a guard of honour back at school as they welcomed one more trophy into the cabinet.
